Kuwana & North

The North region of Mie is made up of two cities and two towns: Kuwana City and Inabe City, Toin Town and Asahi Town. From Kuwana station, taking either the JR or Kintetsu trains, you could be in Nagoya City in around 20-35 minutes. It’s also very easy to get to the Kansai region from Kuwana station also.
“The North” has many great attractions that are accessible all year round and are fun to go to, and to explore, with friends. The most well known of these is the water theme park “Nagashima Spalands” (ナガシマスパーランド). Next would be “Nabana no sato” (なばなの里), a botanical garden, which is transformed into an illumination wonderland, in the winter season. There are a few shopping malls, like the new “Toin Aeon Mall” (東員イオンモール), some nice onsens, bowling alleys and game arcades also, like Asahi’s “Asobix” (アソビックス). There are many amazing restaurants, that also offer “all you can drink” (飲み放題) menus and, of course, you will be able to find some karaoke places to belt those lovely tunes out.
Kuwana City is famous for the ‘loudest festival in Japan’, known as the “Ishidori Festival”, held on the first weekend of August. There is also the fireworks festival on the Ibi River. “The North” is also famous for clams, yasunagamochi, Muramasa Samurai’s swords and 1000 paper cranes.
We have 11 amazing ALTs in “The North” region of Mie. We will be more than happy to share our experiences in our area with other JETs from other areas, so please come on up.

I’m originally from Minnesota in the US, but I studied Global Studies at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska! This year I’ll be going into my third year on JET as a Junior High School ALT in Kuwana.

When I’m not at school, I love exploring near and far (mostly for cafes, small restaurants, or nice places to sit and enjoy a Coolish), going to concerts, eating okonomiyaki, or having a nice night in with some video games. I don’t go hiking nearly as much as I would like, but I try to get out of the city when I can!

If there’s any questions you might have about anything, please send them my way! If I don’t personally know the answer, I will do my best to find someone who does!
